Based on Adena Halpern's novel, the story centres on a woman who dies and must earn her place in heaven by recalling her ten best days.
Director Shawn Levy, who worked with Adams on the upcoming Night At The Museum: Battle Of The Smithsonian, suggested that the pair team up for Ten Best Days when he saw her reading Halpern's novel.
"I've known Adena for over a decade, and there is Amy, reading her book on set," Levy said to Variety. "I told her I knew the writer, she said she was loving the book, and I asked her if we should try to do this together.
"There is a father-daughter dynamic at the heart of the character's redemption, and as the father of three girls, that resonated strongly for me."
