Baruchel to be Cage's 'Apprentice'

Jay Baruchel is in negotiations to star in Disney's The Sorcerer's Apprentice, reports Variety.

The actor, who appeared in the summer war comedy Tropic Thunder, will play the title role opposite Nicolas Cage's sorcerer in the fantasy blockbuster. The story takes place in modern-day New York, where a young wizard searches for a magic mentor.

Jon Turteltaub will direct the film with Jerry Bruckheimer producing. Lawrence Konner, Mark Rosenthal and Matt Lopez have scripted the project.
