Christopher Nolan's superhero sequel, which stars Christian Bale and Heath Ledger, shifted 513,000 units on its first day of release on Monday, 21% of which (107,730) were Blu-ray discs.
The format has experienced a surge in popularity, with sales of 463,000 for November 2008 a 66% increase from the previous month.
"Since Blu-ray was adopted as a high definition format, sales have gone from strength to strength," said Lavinia Carey, director general of the British Video Association.
"The promising sales of Blu-ray discs demonstrate that increasingly more people are recognising the substantial increase in quality that Blu-ray provides."
Iron Man (95,000 units), WALL-E (60,000) and BBC documentary series Planet Earth (58,000) have also notched up impressive Blu-ray sales.
