Nixon's co-star Kim Cattrall had sparked rumours of a follow-up in November by announcing that filming on the project could begin as early as next summer.
"We don't know if it's coming up," Nixon told the US edition of OK!. "We're in negotiation. I'm very hopeful, but certainly nothing is for sure. I don't think anyone's deals are done.
"We were very excited to get to do the first one, and we're keeping our fingers crossed that we get to do another one."
Nixon, who played lawyer Miranda Hobbs, also revealed her hopes for the character in a new instalment.
"I’d like her to have fun," she said. "She had such a hard time last time."
