Howard: 'Ledger deserves Golden Globe'

Rex Features

Terrence Howard has claimed that Heath Ledger should win the best supporting actor prize at the 2009 Golden Globe Awards.

Ledger, who died in January, has been nominated for his role as the Joker in The Dark Knight.

Crash star Howard insisted that Ledger should win the award, saying: "He gave more than I have seen any other actor give, he brought a new light. How do you step into Jack Nicholson's shoes? How do you do that and stretch that? He stretched Jack Nicholson's shoes."

Howard added that in the event of another actor winning the gong, it should still go to Ledger.

"Even if someone else won in his category, if I had won in that category, I would give it to his family because he truly had the best performance," he said.
