The 27-year-old wants to land the coveted role of mind-reading vampire Aro in New Moon, according to MTV.
New cast members joining the franchise have not yet been announced, despite filming being due to start in around 12 weeks' time.
However, Summit Entertainment has sparked speculation that original film star Taylor Lautner has been ditched from the sequel.
The studio is reportedly concerned that Lautner, who played Jacob Black, might lack the physical strength required by the character in New Moon.
Among the actors being touted as his replacement is Scorpion King 2 star Michael Copon, whose representative told MTV that he is making a full effort to land the role.
