The actor said he worked on the movie with director Steven Spielberg before both were forced to drop out due to conflicting schedules.
"Meet The Parents was something that I was developing with Steven Spielberg," he told Larry King on CNN's Larry King Live.
"I actually created the Fockers in a creative meeting. But, it was perfect that Ben Stiller did it. When I saw it, I went: 'That's the way it's supposed to be done.'"
Stiller and Meet The Parents co-star Robert De Niro are reportedly planning a third film in the franchise with director Jay Roach.
