The cult movie beats DreamWorks' Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa and Vince Vaughn's comedy Four Christmases to the festive number one.
Keanu Reeves's sci-fi project The Day The Earth Stood Still falls to fourth.
Elsewhere, Matthew Broderick's children's animation The Tale Of Despereaux debuts at five.
