The star's BBC shows The Office and Extras are the only British sitcoms to ever win prizes at the ceremony.
The 47-year-old said that being chosen to present is an "amazing honour".
"Winning two Globes back in 2004 is still a career highlight," he told the BBC. "This time I even get a goody bag."
The Globes, which are presented by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, are widely considered to be an indicator of who will win at the Oscars.
Steven Spielberg has already been announced as the recipient of this year's Cecil B. De Mille Award for his contribution to entertainment.
Gervais will join previously announced presenters including Jennifer Lopez, Jake Gyllenhaal, Seth Rogen and Sacha Baron Cohen.
The 66th annual Golden Globes will be broadcast live on January 11 from the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles.
