'The Dark Knight' denied China release
Published Friday, Dec 26 2008, 18:14 GMT | By Simon Reynolds

A statement released from the studio said: "Based on a number of pre-release conditions that are being attached to The Dark Knight as well as cultural sensitivities to some elements of the film, we have opted to forego a theatrical release of the film in China."
Censorship rules, along with quotas on movie imports, have long made China a problematic market for Hollywood.
The Dark Knight's location shoot in Hong Kong may also have made it difficult to pass the movie through censors.
The superhero sequel has so far grossed $465 million in overseas territories.
