The actor has returned to comedy roles with Yes Man after turns in Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind and The Truman Show, but insisted that he has not left funny films behind.
"That's an illusion, I just do whatever I'm attracted to," Carrey told The Northern Echo.
"It's like the woman who stands out in the crowd, who for some reason you notice, that's the one you're supposed to dance with at that time in your life. That's just what it is with scripts, they find you when you're emotionally in the right place to do them."
Carrey added that he has no plans to walk away from comedic parts in the future. "I'm never going to leave any particular style of doing this behind, or any particular type of expression," he said.
