The movie, based on the children's books by Kathryn Lasky, follows a group of barn owls in the Forest of Tyto who find themselves under threat from evil forces.
Watchmen's Zack Snyder was previously announced as the movie's director, while Happy Feet writer John Collee and A Mighty Heart's John Orloff will script the screenplay.
Matrix star Hugo Weaving and True Blood actor Ryan Kwanten are also reported to be lending their voices to the production.
The film is expected to be released in 2010.
