Extended 'Donnie Darko' gets cinema release
Published Friday, Apr 23 2004, 12:48 BST | By Neil Wilkes

Originally released in 2001, the film - which starred Jake Gyllenhaal and Drew Barrymore - was more of a hit on DVD than at the cinemas.
The new version, due to premiere at the Seattle Film Festival on May 29, will feature 20 minutes of unseen footage as well as new visual effects and music.
"Even though I am proud of the theatrical version of the film, I've always felt that the story was somewhat compromised in order to come in under two hours," writer and director Richard Kelly told the Hollywood Reporter. "With this version I feel like I've finally been able to complete the film."
The special edition will be released to US cinemas later this summer.
