According to PA, the Brit said she was "thrilled" to be up for the Best Actress gong for her role as a former concentration camp guard in The Reader.
"I'm extremely happy to have been nominated," she said. "And very fortunate. Playing Hanna Schmitz will always remain one of the biggest challenges I've ever been blessed with.
"I'm genuinely thrilled not just for myself but for the wonderful Stephen Daldry [director] and David Hare [writer]. These nominations are a testament to their unwavering commitment to this film."
Winslet is up against Anne Hathaway, for Rachel Getting Married; Angelina Jolie for Changeling; Melissa Leo for Frozen River; and Meryl Streep for Doubt.
The ceremony will take place at the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles on February 22.
