Universal Pictures is making the big screen adaptation of David Wroblewski's novel The Story Of Edgar Sawtelle.

Tom Hanks's Playtone and Oprah Winfrey's Harpo Films will produce the project, reports Variety.

Edgar Sawtelle, which was published in September, has been at the top of the bestseller list for 30 weeks and was selected for Winfrey's Book Club last year.

The book follows the story of a mute teenage from a farm in Wisconsin whose family has raised a coveted breed of dogs. When the boy's uncle arrives and his father mysteriously dies, the boy flees to the woods with three of the animals.
