LOTR DVD tipped for record sales

The release of the final Lord of the Rings film is expected to break DVD sales records this week.

The theatrical version of The Return of the King - in stores from today (Tuesday) - is being served up in a two-disc set with a recommended retail price of £28.

Supermarket chain Tesco, which is selling the set for £18, is predicting that the movie will be its biggest selling entertainment product ever.

The current record is held by second film The Two Towers, which sold 400,000 copies in Tesco stores in its first week.

Meanwhile, security is being increased at stores around the country to protect promotional material - including life-size cardboard cut-outs, promo posters and banners - from light-fingered fans.
