Amber Heard wins 'Rum Diary' role

Amber Heard will star opposite Johnny Depp in Hunter S. Thompson adaptation The Rum Diary.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Pineapple Express actress will portray Chenault, the girlfriend of a journalist Depp's character Paul Kemp becomes involved with after starting work at a run-down newspaper in Puerto Rico.

The role had been much sought-after in Hollywood, with Scarlett Johansson and Keira Knightley reportedly expressing an interest. However, several actresses voiced reservations due to the amount of nudity the role requires.

Withnail & I's Bruce Robinson will direct the film from his own script.
