Based on Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons's celebrated graphic novel, Watchmen is set in a parallel 1985 where vigilantes have been outlawed by the government. The Keene Act, a bill issued to ban all costumed heroes, plays a key part in the Zack Snyder forthcoming movie.
