Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons's graphic novel Watchmen features a comic-within-a-comic storyline following an adrift mariner who battles against the harsh sea to warn his family of the imminent arrival of pirate ship the Black Freighter. For the eagerly-awaited movie adaptation of the superhero saga, director Zack Snyder has overseen an animated DVD of Tales Of The Black Freighter (released on April 6) and recruited his 300 star Gerard Butler to voice the lead role.
