Warner Bros executives said that the first cut of the film was not good enough, with one scene being dismissed as "ridiculously unrealistic", The Sun claims.
An insider said that the director was "distracted" at the time of filming because of his divorce from Madonna.
They added: "It's disastrous news, but Guy has promised to fix it."
The cast of the film includes Jude Law, Mark Strong and Rachel McAdams, with Robert Downey Jr. in the title role.
