Damon: 'Oscar voters can get it wrong'

Matt Damon has suggested that Oscar voters choose the wrong winners "more often than they get it right".

Speaking to Parade, the Bourne Ultimatum star claimed that films needed to be appreciated over several years before they were honoured for their achievements.

"I think that the best way to judge movies is, like, ten years after they're released. I think they should actually do the awards that way," he said.

"I think they should have done the Academy Awards this year for movies from 1998. I think it's better to look at a movie and then step back and look at it again."

He added: "I don't think that the awards necessarily get it right. I think they get it wrong more often than they get it right."

Damon won an Oscar, alongside Ben Affleck, for penning the screenplay to 1997's Good Will Hunting.
