According to the New York Daily News's Gatecrasher column, the singer has been approached to lead a "young and sexy" reboot of the 1992 film, which starred Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner.
An insider has claimed that the star held meetings in New York over the weekend to discuss future film projects, saying: "She’s been wanting to do movies for a while now."
Other potential vehicles that have been proposed for the singer reportedly include the forthcoming Charlie's Angels sequel and an unnamed movie alongside Justin Timberlake.
However, a representative for Rihanna has denied that any meetings with directors, producers or production companies have taken place.
The Bodyguard featured Houston as a music star who hires Costner's former Secret Service agent to protect her from a stalker.
