The biopic, costing HKD $22 million (£2 million), will be a joint production between Beijing-based Dadi Cinema and the state-run China Film Group, reports The AP.
Confucius lived in about 500 BC and produced a moral system as a basis to run society, life and government. However, his teachings were outlawed during Mao Zedong's Cultural Revolution of the 1960s as they were considered part of the 'bourgeois hierarchical' ideology of the past.
A release date for the biopic is yet to be announced, although filming will get underway in about three weeks.
