'Transformers 3' arriving summer 2011

DreamWorks and Paramount have announced the release date for Transformers 3.

The third instalment in the robot franchise will arrive in cinemas on July 1, 2011. The date puts it in the middle of a crowded summer, with Spider-Man 4, Thor, The First Avenger: Captain America and Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows: Part II all scheduled for release around that time.

Deals have not yet been struck with director Michael Bay or stars Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox to return. DreamWorks and Paramount are currently searching for writers to pen the action blockbuster.

The second Transformers movie, Revenge Of The Fallen, opens in cinemas on June 26.
