Pine, who can next be seen playing a young James T. Kirk in Star Trek, is top of Warner Bros' list to play the pilot-turned-superhero, according to IESB.net.
Sam Worthington (Terminator Salvation) is also reportedly a candidate, while Mad Men's John Hamm and Firefly star Nathan Fillion were considered but have been ruled out because the studio is looking for an actor younger than 30.
Martin Campbell (Casino Royale) will direct Green Lantern in Australia later this year for a December 17, 2010 release.
