Speaking to The Daily Telegraph, the singer revealed that offers to develop a biopic usually fell through after studios discovered that his upbringing was lacking drama.
"[One] producer turned round to me and replied, 'This is the worst story I've heard in my whole life. There is no tragedy,'" he said, after recounting his stable family life and successful college career.
However, the 59-year-old joked that Hollywood had shown slightly more interest following his second divorce in 2004.
"The same guy called me up and said, 'Your book's getting better'. He basically wanted me to have a downfall and then to rise back up...perfect for a movie storyline."
