Nick Cassavetes has been tapped to direct a movie based on the life of animal conservationist Dame Daphne Sheldrick.
Sheldrick has dedicated more than 30 years of her life to saving elephants from extinction by taking in animals orphaned by war, poaching and culling in Kenya. In 1992, she was inducted into the UN Environment Programme's Global 500 Roll of Honour for her conservation efforts.
John Stockwell has written the script for the movie, titled Peaceable Kingdom, which Cathy Schulman and Peter Guber will produce.
"I'm crazy passionate about this one," Schulman told Variety. "This film is all about the cycle of life and rebuilding families, both animal and human. It's also about the intertwining of people and animals."
