Harry Houdini to become action star
Published Friday, Mar 27 2009, 13:32 GMT | By Simon Reynolds

William Kalush and Larry Sloman's 608-page book suggests that the renowned Hungarian escapologist was a spy for the British and advised Czar Nicholas II in pre-revolutionary Russia. The biography also theorises that Houdini's death was caused by spiritualists who objected to him speaking out against them.
Summit, the studio behind the Twilight series, wants to turn the source material into an action-thriller with Houdini portrayed as a cross between Indiana Jones and Sherlock Holmes.
Names such as Tom Cruise, Robert Zemeckis and Ang Lee have previously attempted to turn Houdini's life into a movie. The recent Death Defying Acts, starring Guy Pearce and Catherine Zeta-Jones, followed Houdini's career in the 1920s.
