Hemingway & Fuentes is being written, produced and directed by actor Andy Garcia, with a co-writing credit on the script going to Hemingway’s niece Hilary Hemingway, claims The Hollywood Reporter.
Garcia will also star in the independent film as Gregorio Fuentes, a fishing boat captain believed to be the basis for Santiago, the main character in Hemingway’s The Old Man And The Sea.
Actress Annette Bening is said to be in discussions to portray Hemingway’s wife Mary Welsh.
Academy Award winner Hopkins has previously played real-life figures in Amistad, The World’s Fastest Indian, Surviving Picasso and Nixon.
