Scott Stewart, who just finished working with Bettany on Legion, is directing the picture for Screen Gems.
Priest is an adaptation of a TokyoPop comic book, which is based in a world that has been "ravaged by centuries of war between man and vampire". Bettany will play the title character, who is on a mission to track down murderous vampires who have kidnapped his niece.
Screen Gems president Clint Culpepper said that it was Bettany's performance in Legion which persuaded them to sign the actor.
