Miley Cyrus's The Last Song will be helmed by first-time feature director Julie Anne Robinson.

According to Variety, the project casts Cyrus as a rebellious teenager who spends the summer with her father. Nicholas Sparks penned the movie based on his own novel.

The Disney project has been tailored specifically for Cyrus, who will act and not sing in the drama.

British director Robinson won a BAFTA for directing the pilot for BBC series Viva Blackpool. She has since had a successful career Stateside, working on Big Love, Weeds and Grey's Anatomy.
