'Gossip' star 'interested in Footloose role'

Gossip Girl star Chace Crawford is reportedly eager to take on Zac Efron's recently vacated role in Paramount's reboot of Footloose.

The actor, who plays Nate Archibald in the CW show, screen-tested for the part following Efron's departure last week, reports E! News.

An unnamed source claimed that Crawford "did really well" but representatives for the actor and the movie have declined to comment.

Footloose, based on the 1984 original starring Kevin Bacon, was fast-tracked by the studio following the success of High School Musical 3. However Efron is reported to have ditched the project for fear of being typecast in musical roles.
