Jamie Bell and Channing Tatum have been lined up to star in Roman military drama The Eagle Of The Ninth.

Bell has agreed terms to join the cast, while Channing Tatum is in talks for the historical epic. Kevin Macdonald, the director behind the upcoming State Of Play, will helm the project for Focus Features and Film 4.

According to Variety, the 2nd century story concerns the disappearance of the Ninth Legion, a group of Roman soldiers who vanished in the Scottish Highlands. An injured soldier (Tatum) and his slave (Bell) attempt to solve the mystery more than a decade later.

Jeremy Brock will reteam with his Last King Of Scotland director to write the movie, which Duncan Kenworthy is producing.

The Eagle Of The Ninth is expected to film in Hungary and Scotland this August.
