Gladys Knight lands role in Perry film

Knight has been hired by the writer-director to co-star in his latest project I Can Do Bad, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The seven-time Grammy winner will be joined on screen by fellow singers Mary J. Blige and Marvin Winans.
The cast also includes Perry, Adam Rodriguez, Taraji P. Henson and Frederick Siglar.
Perry will once again portray his popular Madea character, while Knight will play Wilma, a neighborhood mother-figure and singer at Marshall Baptist Church that Madea attends.
Knight, Blige and Winans will all sing in the film, with Blige performing an original song written by Ne-Yo.
I Can Do Bad, based on an adaptation of one of Perry’s early plays, has a release date of September 11.
