'Watchmen' star to play Freddy Krueger

Watchman star Jackie Earle Haley has signed up for the Nightmare On Elm Street remake.

Haley will play Freddy Krueger in the reimagining of the 1984 Wes Craven classic.

Transformers director Michael Bay is producing the film with Platinum Dunes and New Line studios. Music video director Samuel Bayer is directing, while Arachnophobia and Doom writer Wesley Strick is penning the script.

Shooting begins in Chicago in May.
