The actors join a cast which includes musicians Ne-Yo and Method Man as Tuskegee airmen.
John Ridley penned the script about pilots overcoming racism within the armed forces to form the first African-American fighter pilot squadron in US military history.
“I've been wanting to do Red Tails for 20 years, and we've finally got the means to showcase the skill of the Tuskegee pilots,” Lucas said. “We're working on techniques which will give us the first true look at the aerial dogfighting of the era.”
Lucas is serving as executive producer and financing the movie through his Lucasfilm production company, and Anthony Hemingway is set to direct when filming begins in Europe.
