Brittany Murphy signs for 'Expendables'

Brittany Murphy and David Zayas have been added to the cast of Sylvester Stallone's The Expendables, says The Hollywood Reporter.

The South American-set action film focuses on a group of mercenaries, among them Stallone, Jason Statham, Mickey Rourke, Jet Li and Dolph Lundgren, who are hired to overthrow a dictator.

Murphy will play the singer girlfriend of Rourke's character and has a musical number in the film. Zayas has been been cast as the dictator.

Stallone is writing and directing the movie, with an April 23, 2010 release date scheduled for the US.
