The actor has teamed up with multimedia artist Carter to produce an unusual project in which he will re-enact a collection of scenes from his previous films, WENN reports.
Erased James Franco will feature the star performing scenes from the TV biopic James Dean, all three Spider-Man movies and comedy Pineapple Express.
Franco said that he was delighted to have been asked to join forces with Carter on the production.
"I’m not quite sure how he thought of me when he came up with this idea, but he did," Franco told USA Today. "There was a year of development. I was happy to do it. It made me think of how we communicate."
The art house film, expected to clock in at 65 minutes, will be shown at tour festivals and museums around the world.
