Pfeiffer: 'Rupert Friend is really nice'

Michelle Pfeiffer has described Rupert Friend, her co-star in upcoming period drama Chéri, as "really nice".

The actress told The Guardian that she was introduced to Friend for the first time by the film's British director Stephen Frears.

Pfeiffer said: "[Frears] felt very strongly and was very excited about him. I hadn't seen anything of his, but he is just a really, really nice, untortured soul."

She added that there "is nobody smarter" than the director and said that "he is always thinking and he never compromises".

Last month, Friend revealed that he had fulfilled a "boyhood dream" by kissing Pfeiffer in the movie.

Chéri opens in British cinemas on May 8.
