Burton's version of Lewis Carroll's classic tale will combine live-action and animated footage and is scheduled to arrive in conventional cinemas and IMAX screens on March 5, 2010.
Newcomer Mia Wasikowska will star as Alice in the Disney production, with Johnny Depp on board as the Mad Hatter and Anne Hathaway playing the White Queen.
In previous Alice incarnations the Cheshire Cat has been played by Sterling Holloway, Telly Savalas and Whoopi Goldberg.
