State Of Play director Kevin Macdonald has signed up to develop and direct an adaptation of Isaac Asimov's novel The End Of Eternity.

Originally published in 1955, the book concerns an organisation made up of Eternals, people recruited from different eras who travel through time to alter and preserve human history.

New Regency is financing the project, with Vince Gerardis (Jumper) producing, says Variety. Other Asimov works to inspire movie adaptations include I, Robot and Bicentennial Man.

Macdonald, who previously helmed documentary Touching The Void and The Last King Of Scotland, will direct Jamie Bell and Channing Tatum in Roman military drama The Eagle Of The Ninth this summer.
