The Mark Bomback-scripted project, inspired by a real-life event, centres on a veteran engineer (Washington) who attempts to halt a runaway train that's carrying toxic waste, reports Variety.
The movie will be the fifth time Washington has worked with Scott. The pair previously collaborated on Crimson Tide, Man On Fire, Deja Vu and recently completed filming on remake The Taking of Pelham 123.
Scott will produce the 20th Century Fox movie alongside Julie Yorn (Max Payne, Bride Wars).
