'Gossip Girl' star joins 'Piranha 3-D'

Gossip Girl star Jessica Szohr has signed on for a role in Alexandre Aja's 3-D remake of Piranha, reports E! Online's Marc Malkin.

Based on the 1978 original, the movie revolves around a batch of flesh-eating fish who are accidentally released into the river of a small town.

The actress, who plays Vanessa Abrams in the CW show, will take on the part of Kelly, a local girl who befriends a group of college students who have arrived in the area for spring break.

She joins previously announced cast members Elisabeth Shue, Adam Scott and Richard Dreyfuss, who will make a cameo appearance in homage to his role in Jaws.

Production on Piranha 3-D begins later this month, with a slated release date of March 19, 2010.
