
J.J. Abrams's Star Trek revamp has topped the US box office on its first weekend on release.
The sci-fi film, starring Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto, pulls in $72.5 million to knock X-Men Origins: Wolverine from the chart summit. It is the most successful opening in the Trek franchise's history.
Elsewhere, Ghosts Of Girlfriends Past, Obsessed and 17 Again complete the top five, while Scrubs star Donald Faison's action-comedy Next Day Air is a new entry at number six.
