The director made the admission during an interview with the New York Times, according to Ace Showbiz.
He said: "I have a half-written prequel ready to go if this movie's a smash."
The upcoming film stars Brad Pitt who leads a band of US soldiers on a revenge mission against the Nazis.
The proposed prequel could deal with an idea shelved for the current movie, which would involve an African-American squad trapped behind enemy lines.
Tarantino also mentioned the possibility of a storyline in which the titular Basterds do battle with the Ku Klux Klan during the 1950s.
