Eric Bana has admitted that he jumped at the chance to play a villain in Star Trek.

The actor, who stars as evil Romulan Nero in the sci-fi reboot, told STV that he was excited at the prospect of playing a bad guy.

He said: "It’s fun, the opportunity to get a role like this."

Bana also noted that the anonymity he was given during the makeup process was an extra incentive for taking part.

"It’s a bonus that we can’t tell who you are. It’s so rare, so I jumped at the chance," he added.

Star Trek opened at number one in 23 markets over the past weekend.
