Winslet's first hand experience

Kate Winslet thinks that being a mother helped her a great deal in her latest film role, Ananova reports today.

Winslet plays Sylvia Llewelyn Davies - the woman who gave author JM Barrie the inspiration for 'Peter Pan' - in the film Finding Neverland.

"I don't think I could have played Sylvia if I wasn't a mother," she admitted. "Being a mother myself was invaluable."

Barrie was a friend of the Llewelyn Davies family and looked after Sylvia's children after she died.

Winslet also said that we can expect great things from 12-year-old actor Freddie Highmore, who plays Peter Llewelyn Davies in the film:

"[He] is the best child actor I've seen in my life. It is quite magical what he can do and he isn't even aware of it."
