According to The Times, NASA spent five hours reformatting the J.J. Abrams blockbuster so that it could be sent via Mission Control to the station, which is situated around 220 miles from Earth.
In a statement, astronaut Michael Barratt admitted that Star Trek had been the reason behind his career, saying: "[It] blended adventure, discovery, intelligence and storytelling that assumes a positive future for humanity.
"The International Space Station is a real step in that direction, with many nations sharing in an adventure the world can be proud of."
Star Trek raced to the top of the US and UK box offices on release and has grossed nearly $200 million worldwide.
