George Clooney has been lined up to star in the adaptation of A Very Private Gentleman.

According to Variety, 28 Weeks Later writer Rowan Joffe is penning the script, while Anton Corbijn will direct.

The original Martin Booth novel told the story of an assassin who hides out in an idyllic Italian town by posing as an artist. Normally anti-social, he relents and becomes friends with the locals, which causes complications for his last mission.

Clooney's other upcoming projects include Jason Reitman's Up In The Air and war comedy Men Who Stare At Goats.
