The studio and Sony Pictures Entertainment have obtained the rights to Katrina-survivor John Keller's story, Variety reports.
Keller orchestrated the rescue of 244 people in New Orleans after their building was flooded with 11ft of water during the tragedy.
John Lee Hancock, who is currently helming The Blind Side starring Sandra Bullock, will write and direct the film.
Keller was profiled in several magazines following the event and has said that he was motivated to help out of "concern for the elderly residents".
